Training on road safety and immediate first aid
12 March ,Gangtok (IPR) : Road accident is one of the leading causes of death and road accident victims stand a greater chance of survival and reduction in the severity of injuries if? effective ?First Aid and Medical Assistance are delivered in the Golden Hour. Hence, the Trauma Care Division of Health Care, Human Services & Family Welfare Department in collaboration with Road Safety cell of the Transport Department provided training on First Aid and Medical Assistance to doctors and paramedics of all Hospitals in the state and to the staff of the Transport Department including bus drivers and conductors from 19 th ?February 2018 to 8 th ?March 2018. First Aid training was also imparted to drivers of heavy motor vehicles and volunteers living along the National Highway.
The said training was conducted in different batches at STNM Hospital and Yatayat Bhawan??in Gangtok and at Singtam, Gyalshing, Mangan and Namchi District Hospitals as per the following schedule.
1.????? 19 th ?Feb 2018- STNM Hospital
2.????? 22 nd ?and 23 rd ?Feb 2018- District Hospital, Gyalshing.
3.????? 26 th ?Feb 2018- SNT Yatayat Bhawan Gangtok.
4.????? 28 th ?Feb 2018 District Hospital, Mangan.
5.????? 3 rd ?March 2018 District Hospital, Singtam.
6.????? 8 th ?March 2018 District Hospital, Namchi.
?Orthopaedic and Surgical specialists of STNM Hospital and Namchi hospitals were the Resource persons.
The trainees were explained about First responders, effective First Aid, identifying seriousness of injury and emergency action to be taken including the right method of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, use of splints, Dos and don?ts about handling an injured person.
?Information was also disseminated about the Guidelines for protection of ?Good Samaritans? in the event of road traffic accidents, in order to encourage more volunteers to come to the aid of Road accident victims.
