25 years Chamling rule ends ; SKM secured majority to form New Govt
24 May, Pakyong (Gangtok) : Thoughest opposition?Sikkim?Krantikari Morcha?(SKM), led by its?firebrand leader?Prem?Singh Tamang, popularly known as P S Golay ended?Chief?Minister?Pawan?Kumar Chamling's 25-year rule in the border state after a close and slim contest on Thursday , 23 May.
The counting simultaneously at 8 AM started across all district headquarters of East , West, North and South at Gangtok in Brihaspati Parsai SSS, Kyongsa Public Ground in Gayzing, Mangan , Namchi.
Of the state's 32 seats, Golay's SKM won 17 seats, leaving the?Chief?Minister?and his?Sikkim?Democratic Front totally stunned, who won 15 seats.
Lone Member of Parliament MP Lok Sabha seat too is won by SKM party's candidate Indra Hang Subba who contested against counterpart SDF candidate DB Katwal by huge margin of 12433 out of total 3,51,746 votes.
The counting of votes on the 32 seats concluded late Thursday night.
In a solace for the 68-year-old outgoing chief minister, he won both Poklok-Kamrang and Namchi Singhithang seats, on way to a record eighth term as a?legislator.
His ministerial colleague DT Lepcha too entered the?state legislature?from two seats - Martam Rumtek and Gnathang-Machong. Other ministers - Ugen T. Gyatso Bhutia and N K Subba -- also romped home from the Tumin-lingi and Maneybong-dentam assembly constituencies.
For the SKM, Kunga?Nima Lepcha?won from the Gangtok and Shyari assembly seats, while party supremo P S Golay's 28 year-old son?Aditya Golay?entered the house from the Soreng-Chakung assembly seat.
The SKM is likely to convene a parliamentary board meeting Friday to elect its chief ministerial candidate,?a party leader?said to media.
The SKM's?Women Front General Secretary?Pabitra Bhandari?told?PTI?that the party cadre would like PS Golay to become the next?chief?minister.
"It is the general wish of the party cadre that Golay himself lead the next government as he took the nascent party to an electoral victory in?Sikkim?after prolonged struggle for more than five years," she said.
However, it is up to the leadership on the next chief minister, Bhandari said.
Meanwhile, the SKM cadres burst fire crackers at various places in?Sikkim?and raised slogans to celebrate an unlikely victory of the party.
They also took out a victory procession in the state capital to mark the historic occasion.
The SDF has accepted the verdict, PTI reported.
"We thank the people of?Sikkim?for giving us a long rope to serve them. We did our best to take our state on the path of development and prosperity under the leadership of?Pawan?Kumad Chamling," its?spokesperson?K T Gyaltsen said.
The SDF also congratulated the SKM over its victory.
The Winners were handed with Certificates by the Returning Officers of respective district HQ.

FINAL RESULTS:
Gyalshing, 23rd May, 2019 (IPR): The Counting of the Eight (8) Assembly Constituencies for Sikkim Legislative Assembly 2019 was peacefully and successfully concluded at the Auditorium Hall, Kyongsa Girls Senior Secondary School, Gyalshing, West Sikkim in the presence of Returning Officer Shri. Karma R. Bonpo along with the 4 Central Observers namely Shri. Faisal Aftab, Dr. N. Nagambika Devi; Shri. pankaj Agarwal and Shri. Tosheswar Muktiar.
The final results are as follows:
1. 01 YOKSAM TASHIDING: Shri. Sangay Lepcha (SKM) won by 79 votes.
2. 02 YANGTHANG: Shri. Bhim Hang Limboo (SKM) won by 48 votes.
3. 03 MANEYBONG DENTAM: Shri. Narendra Kumar Subba (SDF) won by 1504 votes.
4. 04 GYALSHING BARNYAK: Shri. Lok Nath Sharma (SKM) won by 1814 votes.
5. 05 RINCHENPONG: Shri. Karma Sonam Lepcha (SDF) won by 1069 votes.
6. 06 DARAMDIN: Shri. Mingma Norbu Sherpa (SKM) won by 328 votes.
7. 07 SOREONG CHAKUNG: Shri. Aditya Golay (SKM) won by 208 votes.
8. 08 SALGHARI ZOOM: Smt. Sunita Gajmer (SKM) won by 93 votes.
In North District , Mangan
Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) has won two seats and Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) has won one seat in north district.
General Election 2019, Counting of votes pertaining to Assembly Constituencies i.e. 29-Kabi-lungchok, 30-Dzongu, 31- Lachen-Mangan, 32- Sangha and no. 1- Sikkim Parliamentary constituency took place peacefully under tight security in hall no. 1, 2 and 3 at District Administrative Centre, Mangan , North Sikkim on Thursday.
Vote Counting exercise had begun in the presence of General Observer, Dr. Pratibha Singh, Counting Observer, Mr. Zuhair Bin Saghir, Returning Officer, Mr. Raj Yadav, AROs and Counting agents of all political parties.
The counting process began at 8 am amid tight security in a peaceful environment. The EVMs were taken out at 7:30 am from strong room in the presence of counting agents of candidates, observers RO, AROs and senior counting officers.
The counting of poll votes of Assembly Segment started from 29-Kabi-Lungchok followed by 30-Dzongu and finally 31-Lachen-Mangan of Sikkim Parliamentary Constituency at hall no. 1. Similarly, counting of poll votes of Assembly Constituency: 29-Kabi-Lungchok and 30-Dzongu was carried out at hall no. 2 and counting of assembly constituency: 31 Lachen-Mangan and 32-Sangha (in part) were done at hall no. 3.
After a peaceful accomplishment of the counting of poll votes the election results were revealed wherein Sikkim Krantikari Morcha emerge victorious by winning two seats i.e. 29-Kabi- Lungchuk and 31-Lachen-Mangan.Where as Sikkim Democratic Front has won one seat i.e. 30-Dzongu. None of the independent candidates got succeeded this time in the district.
Results of General Election 2019: North Sikkim
Shri. Karma Loday Bhutia, SKM, 29-Kabi-Lungchuk, total vote 5705.
Shri. Samdup Lepcha, SKM, 31-Lachen-Mangan, total votes 3615.
Shri. Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, SDF, 30-Dzongu, total votes 5613.
Entire counting exercise was carried out peacefully, while the strong room was sealed at 8.15 PM in the presence of the General Observers, RO, AROs and senior counting officer.
The Winners were handed with Certificates by the Returning Officers of respective district HQ.
