Why Do People Go Missing ?
Pakyong, 25 Feb: Every day in the national or state media or news we see a list of missing people. Some people are found while others just vanish. This may depend upon many factors such as age, state of mind, or education etc now we must not confuse ?missing? (who may have just vanished on their own) with ?kidnapping? (which happens against their will). Most people tend to just move out of their homes, only a tiny portion of people may be unable to trace back to their home who eventually (mostly young/adolescent ) turn into tramps, poorly paid workers like hotel boys, cleaners, and truck helpers, domestic help or even sex workers etc, and among them very few people are rescued and go back to their respective homes.
Why do people run away from home?
Mental problem/ illness can be one of the factor as if someone is mentally unstable chances are high that they go elsewhere leaving their homes. He/she might not be in the right state of mind to be aware of where they are heading. Such people are unaware or unreliable so it is necessary that a family member keeps an eye on them.
People suffering from Depression might just flee away from their homes to hide from their responsibilities; normal people too for that matter may decide to go MIA because of various reasons like work pressure, peer pressure, familial tension, anxiety etc.
Domestic violence In other cases a spouse may be emotionally, physically or sexually abused by their partners, taking advantage of the situation they might believe that, them running away or being ?missing? can get the partner in trouble, or maybe in hope of settling down somewhere else where nobody knows them.
Drug abuse can be another cause of people going missing.
Eloping in order to settle down with a person of their choice after fearing that they might not get any consent from their parents.
Unemployment causes frustration, stress, anger and disappointment and people feel like they are letting their family down and he/she is relying on their income. This causes isolation and to avoid this they might just run away or go missing.
Human trafficking people especially girls can be victims to human trafficking, this mostly happens with girls from the rural areas.
Then there are those who get kidnapped for ransoms.
We should all take different measures to tackle this problem which we have been witnessing time and again but it is not given any heed to or just left unattended. Social media and NGOs can be helpful not to keep their disappearance a secret, the more people you have looking on your behalf and speedier the results might be. Free counseling camps can also be set up for people seeking psychological help with different issues because half of the problem vanishes if we just get someone to hear it out.
