Nearly 50 Kgs Rotten Fish Seized By Authority at Gayzing later trashed
Geyzing, 11 Mar : A surprise checking of meat shops was conducted by Geyzing Municipal Council in coordination with Animal Husbandry AHVS Deptt and Sikkim Police Dept .
The team comprised of PI Sh C.P Silal, Joint Director AHVS Sh Narad Cintury , GMC staff Sh Tamding Bhutia and Sh Sanchang Hang Limboo.
The team conducted a joint inspection and sampled the meat being sold in the meat shops around Geyzing town for quality and hygine.
During the surprise inspection approximately 50 kg of rotten fish was seized from one meat seller Giaur Rahman.
The rotten fish was being kept in the freezer of the shop and the same was being sold to the consumers since long time.
Earlier a complaint had been received by GMC from the public regarding sale of rotten fish from the said shop.
The ban on sale of meat was lifted on 10 March 2020 (Tuesday) ,however the shop was selling the meat which was stocked almost since 15 days back.
The seized stock of fish was buried to avoid further sale which could otherwise have been a source of an epidemic or untoward outbreak.
It may be mentioned here that few days back around 200 kgs (7 sacks) of rotten dressed poultry chickens was found dumped by some unknown miscreants below Sakyong Road at Sakyong Taxi vehicle parking zone.
This was discovered when the meat started to give a foul smell and infested with insects as well as stray dogs were thriving at that spot below road.
That day also those rotten poultry meat was buried by GMC with help of Safaikarmacharis.
