State High Level Team Inspected Site For Storing Buffer Stock Of Foodgrains
Rangpo, April 22: (IPR) The State Government is striving with vigorous efforts to apply all preventive measures to save the state from Covid-19 amidst global crisis. In an strenuous effort made today, a high level team of Cabinet Ministers of the State Government carried out field inspections in Rangpo and its peripheries to identify a warehouse to store the essential commodities to be brought from outside the state.
The high level team comprised of Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Shri B.S. Panth, Minister for Food & Civil Supplies & Urban Development Shri Arun Upreti, Minister for Agriculture,? Horticulture and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Shri Lok Nath Sharma, Minister for Energy and Power Shri MN Sherpa, and Minister Building & Housing and Transport Shri Sanjit Kharel. They were accompanied in the joint inspection by Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order), Shri Akshay Sachdeva, District Collector South Shri Ragul K.,? Managing Director SIMFED Shri Pawan Awasthi, SP South and concerned officials.

At the outset, the inspection team visited Thalthaley, South Sikkim to take stock of the proposed warehouse and its logistics and feasibility. Thereafter, a brief meeting was held at the Tourism Centre, Rangpo to identify an appropriate location for the storage of buffer stock of essential commodities, as a need to break the chain of transmission of Corona Virus through commodities.
Thereafter, the team visited ITI complex at Mining and inspected the vacant space proposed for storage and quarantine facility. Later, the inspection team visited Cold Storage of Sikkim State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd. (SIMFED) at Majhitar/ Rangpo. MD SIMFED Shri Pawan Awasthi informed that the Cold Storage Centre has capacity to store 1500-2000 Metric Tons of commodities.
Speaking to the media, Minister IPR Shri Lok Nath Sharma informed that the visiting team will submit a report to the Chief Minister and further, the State Government will decide to identify the appropriate warehouse for the storage of essential commodities at the earliest.
