International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking observed?in Sikkim
Gangtok, June 26: On the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, NSS Cell, Department of Sports and Youth Affairs organised 15 days online zumba training session starting from today for NSS volunteers of the State.
This year the theme is ?better knowledge for better care. The theme has been emphasised with a need to improve the understanding of the drug problems and issues worldwide.
The session was chaired by the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Department Shri Kunga Nima Lepcha and attended by the Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Jacob Khaling as Guest of Honour, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Department Shri Kuber Bhandari, Smt. Suchitra Rasaily, SNO, NSS Cell, Officers from the department, Programme Coordinators and Officers and NSS volunteers.
The Minister in his address urged individuals, youths, civil societies, communities, NGO?s and various other organisations in the State to come forward and participate in making Sikkim a drug free state through selfless contributions from all.
Political Secretary to CM briefed about the harmful effects of drugs and motivated volunteers to take part in physical activities to keep themselves away from drugs.
During the session, Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs also highlighted that zumba is a unique approach to overcome issues related to substance abuse and also helps in adopting a happier, healthier and positive lifestyle. He highlighted on various sporting and youth oriented activities carried by the Department in the State.
The vote of thanks was given by Mrs Suchitra Rasaily ,SNO,NSS Cell.
Ms Phurba Doma Bhutia, zumba trainer of the Department carried out the online zumba session which is going to be held for the next 15 days.
